After opening for Lloyd Griffith in sell out shows at Lighthouse Poole on 2 and 3 October, comedian Joey Page will be more than ready to take off on his debut national tour, return to Lighthouse to perform his show Nice One on Thursday 6 February.
As Joey embarks on one of his biggest career moments to date, travelling around the country in his Vauxhall Astra, he finds himself examining his success so far when it comes to perception vs reality. To quote Joey Page himself: ‘The burger’s never as good as it looks on the picture.’
Amid many industry initiatives championing accessibility and visibility for working class artists, Joey finds himself becoming a surprising spokesperson. His appearance, that of ‘a geography teacher who got an ASOS voucher for his birthday’, you’d be forgiven for expecting New Age philosophies cooked up from within his alternative East London lifestyle.
But a little longer with this motor-mouthed rogue from Bexleyheath and you’ll realise that he’s from much humbler beginnings, navigating how he fits into a cultural no man’s land of neither here nor there.
And why is that face familiar? The eagle-eyed may recognise him from Never Mind the Buzzcocks or as the face of Gumtree. Or indeed the lairy support act for the likes of Lloyd Griffith, Laura Smyth, Mark Simmons and Rob Beckett.
