DEAN FRIEDMAN - Lighthouse Poole, Sunday 12 May

Thursday, April 25, 2024

Hailed by critics and fans alike as a one of the finest songwriters of his generation, Dean Friedman, who plays Lighthouse Poole on Sunday 12 May, has achieved legendary, pop-icon status for chart-topping hits including Ariel, Lucky Stars, Lydia, Woman of Mine, and McDonald’s Girl.

In the intimate surroundings of the Sherling Studio at Lighthouse, Dean will be performing songs from throughout his four-decade career, including familiar radio hits and fan favourites.

He first entered the pop consciousness with the 1977 Top 20 chart success of his infectious hit single, Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorisable pop song about a free spirited, pot-smoking, vegetarian Jewish girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, “…way on the other side of the Hudson”.

Friedman scored again with the release of his follow up album, Well, Well,” Said the Rocking Chair, and the now classic hit single, Lucky Stars. This magical duet, performed with singer Denise Marsa, zoomed to the top of the UK singles charts. Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of Friedman hits, including familiar radio staples such as Lydia, Rocking Chair, McDonald’s Girl and Woman of Mine.

His consummate songwriting and performing have rightly earned him a loyal international following, devoted to the sophisticated, funny and profound work of a master songsmith. Join family and friends for an evening of powerful, poignant and often hilarious songs about the ordinary and extraordinary lives we share.
