Bournemouth and Poole College has partnered with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as a Further Education partner, ensuring that all sports qualifications align with the needs of local employers in Dorset.
The partnership will deliver courses which are tailored to industry recognised standards, meaning that students at the college will earn CIMSPA endorsed qualifications. The partnership has led to the creation of a Local Skills Advisory Board for the sport and physical activity sector to review the qualities required for the sports sector.
Amy Bletcher, Bournemouth and Poole College’s Director of Learning for Business, Service Industries and ESOL, said: “We are hugely excited to announce that we are an official Further Education partner of CIMSPA, marking a significant milestone for our sports courses. This collaboration ensures that our students will not only receive top-quality education, but will also gain industry-recognised qualifications that will set them apart in the competitive industry of sport, leisure and physical activity. By aligning our curriculum with CIMSPA’s professional standards, we will equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their careers.”
Other local businesses involved in the Local Skills Advisory Board include BH Live, AFC Bournemouth, Rockley Park, BCP Council, Dorset Chamber, Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, Weymouth College, Kingston Maurward College, Active Dorset, and BCP Adult learning.
CIMSPA is the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector. Bournemouth and Poole College’s partnership is a part of a sector wide engagement involving over 450 employers nationwide. The aim of the collaboration is to upskill the existing and future workforce to meet the demands of an ever-changing sport and physical activity sector.
Interviews for 2025/26 sports qualifications will be taking place from October onwards. For information on all Bournemouth and Poole College courses, please visit www.thecollege.co.uk/college.
